IMPLANTS

Dental implants are replicates of the tooth root that are made of titanium and have a special processed surface. Although dental implants are used in dentistry for more than 60 years now, recent advances in Implantology have substantially broadened their use. Implants comprise the treatment of choice after single, partial or complete tooth missing. The success rates for a 10 year survival of implant supported prostheses are about 95-98%, depending on the research. Different factors such as oral hygiene, smoking, diabetes and medical history of radiotherapy or chemotherapy can influence the above survival rates.

Implant placement is a mainly surgical procedure. It is performed under local anesthesia and follows the general rules of an oral surgical procedure. Dental implants can be placed immediately after tooth extraction or after a period of 6-8 weeks or 3-6 months, depending on the case. Furthermore, several regenerative materials or autogenous grafts can be utilized during implant placement so that part of the lost hard or soft tissues will be replaced. The definitive prosthesis is usually completed within 3 months following osseointegration. In cases where provisional restorations are needed, especially in an aesthetic zone, the treatment time might vary.

Utilizing the most update 3D digital equipment of the practice (Nobel Procera & Nobel Clinician) advance demanding cases can be planned and fulfilled with safety even from a long distance, serving the needs of a wide number of people who travel and live abroad, persons that combine their holidays with dental tourism and furthermore colleague dentists from the field of dental implants.

The doctors have had special training on the novel All-on-4® treatment protocol as issued by Dr Paulo Malo in Malo Clinic (Lisbon, Portugal). This is a surgical and prosthetic protocol that allows full arch rehabilitation with dental implants within a day and with minimal surgical interventions. More specifically, two straight implants are used on the front area and two longer implants tilted up to 45 degrees just in front of the sinus are used on the posterior area. In this way extended bone regenerative surgical procedures that increase patient morbidity can be avoided, especially when the medical history is compromised. Due to the special design of the implants used on All-on-4®, immediate implant loading is allowed and the patient can leave the practice wearing a fixed provisional dental restoration (bridge).

The implant companies utilized in our practice are Nobel Biocare and Straumann and are both followed by life-time guaranty for the dental implant.
